Effects in dogs of hyperventilation and hypothermia on body oxygen stores.

چکیده
Six anaesthetized, paralyzed, hypothermic (30° C) dogs were hyperventilated for 2 hours. During the final 30 minutes, die inspired mixture was altered from oxygen to air. The rates at which alveolar and arterial oxygen concentrations approached their new steady state values were represented by the half-times (t£) of 0.19 and 0.26 minutes, respectively. The turnover rate in venous blood oxygen content proceeded at a considerably slower rate, t^=0.90 minutes. The close agreement of results during hypothermia with results obtained during normothermia indicates that hypothermia per se has no significant effect upon oxygen turnover rate.

Effect of nitric oxide synthase inhibition on hypercapnia-induced hypothermia and hyperventilation.
Hypercapnia elicits hypothermia in a number of vertebrates, but the mechanisms involved are not well understood. In the present study, we assessed the participation of the nitric oxide (NO) pathway in hypercapnia-induced hypothermia and hyperventilation by means of NO synthase inhibition by using Nomega-nitro-L-arginine (L-NNA). Measurements of ventilation, body temperature, and oxygen consumpt...

متن کاملAdjustment of stores of carbon dioxide during voluntary hyperventilation.
Carbon dioxide is stored in the body in various forms, including carbonic acid, bicarbonate and carbamino compounds. The various stores of CO2 can be considered to be in the lung, blood, soft tissues and bone. In an adult human, these stores are thought to be in the order of 120 liters of CO2.’ It is common knowledge that hyperventilation will reduce the level of CO2 in the blood; however, only...
متن کاملRole of nitric oxide in hypoxia-induced hyperventilation and hypothermia: participation of the locus coeruleus.
Hypoxia elicits hyperventilation and hypothermia, but the mechanisms involved are not well understood. The nitric oxide (NO) pathway is involved in hypoxia-induced hypothermia and hyperventilation, and works as a neuromodulator in the central nervous system, including the locus coeruleus (LC), which is a noradrenergic nucleus in the pons. The LC plays a role in a number of stress-induced respon...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF CHOLECYSTOKININ RECEPTOR ANTAGONISTS ON MORPHINE- AND COCAINEINDUCED HYPOTHERMIA
The effects of cholecystokinin (CCK) receptor antagonists on hypothermia induced by cocaine or morphine have been studied in mice. In the present work, subcutaneous (SC) injection of cocaine (50-150 mg/kg) or morphine (125-500 mg/kg) induced hypothermia in mice. Administration of CCKA receptor antagonist MK-329 (0.5-1.5 mg/kg), CCKB receptor antagonist L-365, 260 (0.5-1.5 mgl kg) and CCK r...
